When car sharing takes place, fuel cost is calculated at 30p per mile, divided by the number of occupants of the car. 

nb. some walks may be via public transport. Check below!

Sunday 30th November 
A circular walk from Skirmett via Hambleden in the Chilterns

The walk starts at Skirmett Village Hall (Post Code: RG9 6TD) opposite the Frog Inn (which is currently closed).

We will do an anti-clockwise circuit mainly through woodland until we reach Hambleden and then return to Skirmett through fields along the Hambleden Valley. Please bring a packed lunch to eat along the way. There should be an opportunity to do a brief refreshment stop later in Hambleden.

Some of the paths will be muddy and slippery.

Meet at Leopold Road near Ealing Common station at 09.30 and if you are able to offer some lifts that would be great.

Sunday 7th December 
A walk from Grange Hill to Romford

On leaving Hainault the walk passes through Hainault Forest (Country Park), fields and Havering Country Park to Havering-Atte-Bower – with viewpoints, a church and a pub, we should find somewhere there to stop and eat a packed lunch.  In the afternoon we walk through Bedfords Park, with another viewpoint and toilets.  We then follow Black’s Brook through Raphael Park to Romford and the Elizabeth line back to Ealing Broadway.

Meet at Ealing Broadway station at 09.15 to take the Elizabeth line to Stratford and the Central line to Grange Hill

A linear walk from Ealing to Kingston along the Thames Path

The walk starts at Ealing Broadway Station and goes to Kew where we pick up the Thames Path. Please bring a packed lunch. There are cafes along the way in Richmond to grab a coffee/tea/cake. You can also leave the walk at Richmond, if you want. The Thames Path is likely to be muddy, so sensible walking shoes/boots are advised.

A linear walk from Slough to Windsor 

The walk starts at Slough Station and goes to Windsor and Eton Central Station via the Jubilee River and the Thames Path. 

There is an option to visit a lakeside cafe near Taplow and/or Eton.

The walk will start from outside Slough Station (exit by platform 2) at 09.50. There is an Elizabeth Line train leaving Ealing Broadway at 09.22, arriving at Slough at 09.45.

Sunday 9th November 
Cockfosters to Turkey Street

This is the London Loop Section 17 walk, between Cockfosters and Turkey Street Stations. The walk takes in Trent Park, Enfield Chase, Hilly Fields Park and the Forty Hall Estate.  There will be very little road walking. Some parts may be muddy. The contour is undulating, but no steep parts. Towards the end of the walk, we'll arrive at Forty Hall, a small stately home with free admission, a cafe and toilets. Please bring a packed lunch.

Meet at the ticket barriers at Cockfosters station at 10.30.

Cockfosters is at the end of the Piccadilly Line.

A circular walk from Burnham Beeches 

The walk starts in Burnham Beeches and goes on to Wooburn Green and returns via Littleworth Common.

We will stop for lunch at Wooburn Green, where there are a couple of pubs and a tea room. Please bring a packed lunch. There is also a café near the car park at the end of the walk.

Sunday 26th October 
A circular Chilterns walk from Great Hampden

We’ll start from Great Hampden Cricket Club House and follow an undulating route to Whiteleaf Hill. From there, we’ll make a steep descent to The Plough at Cadsden — famously (or infamously) known as the pub where David Cameron once left his daughter behind!

After crossing the road, we’ll walk by Chequers and continue to Buckmoorend Farm Shop, where we’ll stop for lunch. There are plenty of picnic tables and you can buy light refreshments, or you’re welcome to bring your own packed lunch.

After lunch, we’ll follow the Ridgeway trail back to Hampden House and our cars.

The terrain is largely flat and we will be following the Hillingdon Trail for much of the way, including the Yeading Brook, Gutteridge Wood, Ten Acre Wood and the Grand Union Canal.

Sunday 14th September 
A circular walk from Tring

From Tring the walk goes through Tring Park and then uphill to join the Ridgeway path. Then along the Ridgeway to Wendover Woods where there will be a lunch stop by the Wendover Woods cafe. After lunch we will walk back to Tring along the Wendover Arm of the Grand union Canal. There are a couple of hills to ascend in the morning.

Sunday 31st August 
A circular walk from Goring & Streatley station

We'll be crossing the Thames and walking on the Ridgeway, then turning off to Aldworth - mostly uphill, but not steep - through open fields. After Aldworth, the route will be generally flatter, much of it through woodland. 

Please bring a packed lunch.

Meet at Ealing Broadway station at 9.15, to take the 9.24 train to Reading, and then the 10.25 train to Goring & Streatley, arriving at 10.37.  The walk will start at 10.45, from the Red Cross Road entrance to the station (the other side of the tracks from the main station building).  If you have a Freedom Pass, the only ticket you'll need to buy is a Reading to G&S return.

If travelling by car you can park for free in Upper Red Cross Road.

Sunday 17th August 
A linear walk along part of the London Loop from Harold Wood station to Rainham station

The walk largely follows the River Ingrebourne and there are a number of points of interest along the route. We will pass Upminster windmill, Hornchurch Country Park (with visible remains of a wartime RAF base), Ingrebourne Marshes and Rainham Hall. Rainham Hall is a National Trust property and is located at the end of the walk. It has a café where we can stop for tea and cake.

Meet outside Ealing Broadway station at 09:15. We will catch the 09:26 Elizabeth Line train towards Shenfield, arriving at Harold Wood station at 10:22.

A walk in Richmond Park

The walk is a circular walk around the perimeter of Richmond Park. There are a few inclines, but nothing too strenuous.

Please meet at Ealing Broadway Station at 10.00 to catch the 65 bus at 10.06 which should arrive at The Dysart in Petersham at 10.47, where we will commence the walk.

A walk in the Surrey Hills from Effingham Junction station

The route takes us south across Effingham Common and through Greatlee and Oldlands Woods before looping back to Effingham, where there’s opportunity at the 9-mile mark to stop for refreshments to fortify us for the return to Effingham Junction.  There are no refreshment opportunities until we get to Effingham, so please bring a packed lunch, which we will eat en route.

Meet at 09.30 at Leopold Road by Ealing Common Station for lifts to Effingham Junction, where there is all day parking at the station for £3.70, or meet at Effingham Junction station car park for 10:30.

Local evening walk and picnic in Syon Park 

The walk begins in Syon Park (outside the Hillier garden centre shop's main entrance). We will walk through Syon Park and then follow the river upstream until we cross at Richmond Bridge, then east/downstream and back over the footbridge at Richmond Lock. Returning to Syon House, where we will eat picnic/s on the lawn. It will be on flat parkland, quiet roads and river pathways.

A walk from Ruislip

The walk will begin at West Ruislip station. We will walk to Ruislip Lido and do a circular walk through Copse Wood to Harefield village and return via Bayhurst wood and Mad Bess wood, finishing at West Ruislip station.

Please bring a packed lunch. There may be a chance of a refreshment stop in Harefield.

A circular walk from Goring along the Ridgeway Path and Swan's Way.

From Goring we will walk north along the Ridgeway as far as Carmel College at Mongewell and then return to Goring along Swan’s Way, via South Stoke. 

Meet at Ealing Broadway to take the 08:26 Elizabeth Line train to Reading.  Change at Reading for the 09:18 train to Goring, arriving at 09:30. 

Or meet at Goring Station at 09.30 if travelling by car.

Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of water.

Sunday 15th June
A circular walk from Chorleywood

We shall walk to Chenies, cross the River Chess and walk along the Chess Valley before climbing up to Sarratt village.

Following a lunch stop in Sarratt we shall walk to Commonwood and Bucks Hill then return to the Chess Valley. The final stretch is through the Chorleywood Estate and over Chorleywood Common to return to our start point.

This is a walk on field and woodland tracks, some boardwalks and a few quiet lanes. There may be some muddy spots to negotiate and patches of nettles. Additional boardwalks have been laid in 2025 in muddier spots.

A circular walk from Goring and Streatley Station

There is one long but gentle ascent near the start, and two steeper but shorter ascents later on.  However the majority of the walk will be on level ground, through woodland and fields.  There will be some road walking as we pass through Woodcote, but all the roads we use have little traffic.

Please bring a packed lunch, which we'll have in a field with lovely views.

Meet at Ealing Broadway station at 09:15. We will catch the 09:26 Elizabeth line train to Reading. Freedom Pass holders need only buy a return from Reading to Goring. At Reading we'll take the 10.25 to Goring & Streatley, arriving at 10.37.

Sunday 1st June 
A linear walk from Wargrave to Henley-on-Thames

The route takes us through Wargrave to Warren Row, where there’s an opportunity for a coffee break, then North to the Thames, West of Hurley.  We then follow the Thames upstream to Henley, passing through Aston, with the option of a drink at The Flower Pot Hotel.  Please bring a packed lunch, which I expect we will eat by the river.

Meet at Ealing Broadway station at 09:15. We will catch the 09:26 Elizabeth line train to Twyford and change there for the train to Wargrave.  We will return from Henley.  For those with Freedom Passes: these are valid between Ealing Broadway and Twyford, but you will need to pay for the train journey from Twyford to Wargrave and Henley to Twyford – you can touch in and out with a contactless payment card, but Oyster is not valid.

Sunday 25th May 
A circular walk from West Wycombe

We'll walk between the historic village of West Wycombe, the unspoilt village of Bradenham, and the Hughenden Manor estate. The trail winds through parkland and woodland, offering far-reaching views across the Chiltern Hills.

Please bring a packed lunch. We plan to stop at the café at Hughenden Manor near the end of the walk.

Meet at Leopold Road by Ealing Common Station at 09:00. 
Or meet at 10.00 at the National Trust car park near St Lawrence’s Church on West Wycombe Hill (Grid Ref. SU827950).

Evening walk and Pub night

Location: The Fox, Green Lane, Hanwell, W7 2PJ. Meet in the bar.

There is an evening walk to the Fox pub.​

The walk begins in Pitshanger Park and follows the Brent River Path and is around 4.5 miles long, and takes about 2 hours. 

Meet at 17:30 at the gate to Pitshanger Park at the bottom of Barnfield Road.

Sunday 18th May 

A linear walk from Harpenden to St Albans
The walk starts by crossing Harpenden Common, then goes through the newly established Heartwood Forest. We then walk to the village of Sandridge, where we will stop for lunch, with the option of a drink in one of the village's pubs. We then make our way to St Albans, passing Roman ruins and the cathedral, before heading to St Albans City station. There are many pubs and cafés in St Albans, should anyone like to stop for refreshments before catching the train. Please bring a packed lunch.
Meet at 09:20 at Ealing Broadway station to allow time to buy tickets.
We take the 09:36 Elizabeth Line train from Ealing Broadway, and change at Farringdon for the Thameslink service to Harpenden. At the end of the walk, we will use the same line to return from St Albans. The easiest option is to buy a return ticket to Harpenden. If you have an over-60 Oystercard or Freedom Pass, you can buy a ticket from the boundary of zone 6. This is available from the ticket office, or the National Rail (but not TFL) ticket machines. This costs £10.80, or £7.15 with a railcard.
